Wine & food

The pleasure of great food and wonderful wine is certainly one of the reasons people visit this area.

The chateau stands in rolling countryside. Nearby in the local village, there is a bakery and general store, and it also a good tennis court to which guests at the Chateau de Combecave have a key.

Eight kilometres away lies the fortified Gothic town of Lauzerte, which is perched on a hilltop and is currently being sympathetically restored.

Also nearby is the magnificent Roman town of Moissac, with it's world famous Abbey founded in 481. The 11th century cloisters are the oldest surviving with narative capitals.

The region's medieval heritage is visible everywhere; the countryside is full of chateaux and fortified villages, and the Chateau de Combecave itself is on the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. There are many activities available locally, with good 18 hole golf courses at Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, an equestrian centre at Lauzerte and plenty of good trails for cycling and walking.
